Montessori Education

The Montessori approach is based on the belief that the child is motivated from within by a natural curiosity and love for knowledge, guided by specific urges that develop and mature at identifiable periods of growth. This approach was developed by Maria Montessori, a physician and educational philosopher, who studied the works of Itard and Seguin and scientifically observed the true nature of children. A century after its inception, Montessori serves children from birth through high school in both private and public setting worldwide.

The didactics of Montessori are based on three principles:

Observation
Not only on the part of the child as he receives individual lessons and observes the work of classmates, but also, on the part of the teacher who governs herself by use of concise lessons and observation and non-interference of purposeful work.

Individual Liberty
Provides each child the experience of learning at his own pace in areas appropriate to his own unique level of development, interests and needs. The liberty of each individual has as its limit the respect for the collective interest and rights of the group.

Prepared Environment
A beautiful classroom, thoughtfully designed to encourage the children's independence at work in areas of practical life/daily living activities, social practices, art experiences and sensory-motor materials which provide graduated instruction from concrete to abstract in language, mathematics, geography, sciences and cultural subjects.

The children are encouraged to make their own work selections, work independently, either alone or with companions and practice social courtesies as part of an active community. Our objectives are to promote joy in learning, concentration, self-confidence, self-control, courtesy and respect for others, independence and responsibility. The prevailing atmosphere of the classroom is one of cooperation, lively interactions, enthusiastic work and camaraderie.

"Success in life depends in every case on self-confidence, and the knowledge of one's own capacity and many sided powers of adaptation"
